Cats do best when nothing is rushed. Here's the order we work in, and roughly how long each part takes.
Before anything else we go through the coat with you: where it's matted, whether the skin underneath looks irritated, and how your cat handles being touched. That conversation decides the plan. It's also when we'll say if a full groom isn't right for today.
A cat-appropriate shampoo, warm water, and a calm approach help keep the bath as stress-free as possible. Ears and eyes are kept clear throughout, and teeth brushing will also be done as part of the grooming process. Some cats need this done in stages, which is completely fine. The cat sets the pace.
This matters most for a long coat, because a damp undercoat is where matting begins. We use low-noise drying and brush through as it dries, so the coat separates instead of knitting back together.
De-shedding pulls out the dead undercoat behind hairballs and shedding around the house. De-matting is slower and gentler. Where mats sit tight against the skin, clipping them out is kinder than pulling, and we'll say so before we do it.
Nails trimmed back from the tip, ears cleaned if they need it, and a sanitary trim around the rear and paw pads for long-haired cats. Those two areas cause the most problems between grooms.
You'll leave knowing what to brush, how often, and which tool suits your cat's coat. Most matting is prevented at home between appointments.
A short-haired cat and a Persian need completely different appointments. Instead of one fixed package, our groomers work from what the coat in front of them needs, and will say plainly when less is the right answer.

It depends almost entirely on coat length. Short-haired cats manage well with regular brushing at home and an occasional professional groom. Long-haired cats such as Persians, Maine Coons and Ragdolls generally need a professional groom every four to eight weeks, plus brushing several times a week in between. Once matting starts, waiting only makes it harder.
Usually yes, though the approach changes. Mats sitting tight against the skin can't be brushed out without hurting your cat, so clipping them away is kinder and often the only safe option. We'll show you what we've found and agree the plan before starting. Because we're a veterinary clinic, we can also check the skin underneath once the coat comes away.
It depends on the coat. A short-haired bath and brush is a very different appointment from de-matting a long-haired cat. We'd rather see the cat, or a clear photo, than quote blind. Call either clinic or start a booking and our team will confirm the cost before the appointment.
The grooming itself is the same skill set. What differs is what happens when something turns up: a skin infection under a mat, ear mites, a lump nobody had felt. In a clinic that becomes a vet's opinion the same visit, instead of a phone call telling you to book elsewhere.
Yes, both are part of a full groom, along with a sanitary trim around the rear and paw pads for long-haired cats. Nails are trimmed back from the tip only. They can also be booked on their own. Plenty of owners come in just for a nail trim.
Tell us before you book. We work at the cat's pace, and in stages where that helps. A lot can be done with patience that can't be done at speed. If your cat is too distressed for a full groom, we'll stop and talk through what's realistic instead of forcing it, and having a vet on site means there are more options to discuss.
Yes. Dog grooming covers basic and full grooms, de-shedding, de-matting and hand-stripping, for every size. If you have both a cat and a dog, they can often be booked into the same visit. Ask our team when you call.
